Christina Giannone

“The Opal Amulet” was released last May 30 by the Australian avant-garde label Room40, run by musician Lawrence English. It consists of five tracks that are inserted in the dark atmospheres of ambient-drone, where Giannone uses digital synthesizer sounds and field recordings.
In an interview for the webzine “Fifteen Questions”, our protagonist points out that in her work: “I enjoy pushing the boundaries of sound, layering as much as I can and manipulating those layers over and over, while at the same time striving to keep the integrity of the piece so that it makes sense as a song.»
“The Opal Amulet” offers several layers of synth and effects that are processed and manipulated, the result of which is a mass of sound that is transformed and turned into cosmic dust and takes the form of a drone that expands with force in “Illusory Figure” which opens the album. It is followed by “Iridescent Dust” which shows the colors of the rainbow but in dark tones, as we find ourselves in a black hole, although we have the opal amulet that protects us. “Vaporous Ritual” continues with this uncertain and hesitant journey that “Death Ambient” -which closes this album- deepens with that inert and distant drone.
Christina Giannone transforms the sound into thick layers of noise that acquire an amorphous body and an impenetrable atmosphere.
