Gryphon Rue

Gryphon Rue es un artista, compositor y curador radicado en Brooklyn, Nueva York cuya práctica se desenvuelve como músico lanzando hasta ahora seis álbumes en solitario publicados en Not Not Fun, Astral Editions, Tiger Sushi y Soap Library.
Sus actividades multidisplinarias abarcan su rol de curador de exposiciones, performances y festivales para instituciones y espacios alternativos como Ballroom Marfa, Calder Foundation, Printed Matter y D R O N E en Tribeca. Es realizador de videos musicales y ha colaborado con Ka Baird, Qasim Naqvi, Bergsonist, Merche Blasco, Dean Wareham, Susie Ibarra, Valentina Magaletti, entre otros(as). Se ha presentado en festivales en Italia, Suiza, Canadá y Alemania. Tiene un programa en Montez Press Radio en el que ha conversado con connotados artistas sonoros como Phill Niblock, Annea Lockwood, David Behrman, “Blue” Gene Tyranny, Clark Coolidge y Fran Lebowitz.
En este álbum Gryphon Rue toca una amplia variedad de instrumentos como sintetizadores modulares, farfisa, armonio, mellotron guitarra eléctrica, percusión, grabaciones de campo y otros dispositivos electrónicos. Colabora en las pistas 2, 3, 4 Will Epstein en sintetizador. Algunos elementos de las pistas 3 y 5 fueron grabados en vivo en Roulette, Brooklyn y segmentos de la pista 7 se grabaron en vivo en la Fondazione ICA Milano.
Este disco sorprende por su variedad rítmica y texturas que flirtean con el retrofuturismo (“Shibboleth”), la electrónica ochentera en “Split-level Mirage” y también comprende atisbos al Krautrock en piezas como “Rake’s Progress” o “Dividend”.
Este disco está cubierto de una textura orgánica, como agua (“Alluvials”) y ruidos internos del cuerpo humano como en “World’s Fastest Talking Man” que tienen como telón de fondo una capa espesa de drones (“Operation for Preferred Embodiment”).
Gryphon Rue crea una compleja masa sonora que invita al oyente a descubrir paisajes sonoros atmosféricos y abstractos.

Gryphon Rue is an artist, composer and curator based in Brooklyn, New York, whose practice spans as a musician, releasing six solo albums so far on Not Not Fun, Astral Editions, Tiger Sushi and Soap Library.
His multidisciplinary activities encompass his role as curator of exhibitions, performances and festivals for institutions and alternative spaces such as Ballroom Marfa, Calder Foundation, Printed Matter and D R O N E in Tribeca. He’s director of music videos and has collaborated with Ka Baird, Qasim Naqvi, Bergsonist, Merche Blasco, Dean Wareham, Susie Ibarra, Valentina Magaletti, among others. He has performed at festivals in Italy, Switzerland, Canada and Germany, and run a program on Montez Press Radio in which he has spoken with renown sound artists such as Phill Niblock, Annea Lockwood, David Behrman, “Blue” Gene Tyranny, Clark Coolidge and Fran Lebowitz.
On this album Gryphon Rue plays a wide range of instruments such as modular synths, farfisa, harmonium, mellotron electric guitar, percussion, field recordings and other electronic devices. Collaborates on tracks 2, 3, 4, Will Epstein on synthesizer. Some elements of tracks 3 and 5 were recorded live in Roulette, Brooklyn and snippets of track 7 were recorded live at the Fondazione ICA Milano.
This album strikes with its rhythmic variety and textures that flirt with retro-futurism (“Shibboleth”), eighties electronica in “Split-level Mirage» and, also there are glimpses of Krautrock in pieces like “Rake’s Progress” or “Dividend”.
The album is covered with an organic texture, like water («Alluvials») or internal noises of the human body as in “World’s Fastest Talking Man,” whereas there is backdrop of thick layers of drones («Operation for Preferred Embodiment»).
Gryphon Rue creates a complex sound mass that invites the listener to discover luminous and abstract soundscapes.
