Loula Yorke

Loula Yorke is an English composer, improviser, sound artist, and live performer who works primarily with a modular synthesizer, creating both beautiful ambient pieces and abstract synthesized lines, which she showcased on her album ‘Volta’, released on January 23, 2024, by Truxalis Records, which led to her being interviewed on Loop (check the link: https://loop.cl/loulayorke/).
Following ‘Volta,’ Truxalis Records released ‘The Book of Commonplace’ on January 13, 2025, a mix recorded on cassette that represents a sound diary. And now, on August 6, also on Truxalis Records, ‘Time is a Succession of Such Shapes’ is released, containing 16 songs that dance around Kosmische Musik with a varied approach, in which Yorke does a great job with the melodic lines, as heard in ‘Beautiful Things in Humble Places,’ as well as the airy textures of “Kenning I”; the rhythmic pulses of ‘Barely Aware of the Cup in My Hands,’ “Kenning II,” and ‘Kenning III’; and the nods to dub on ‘Let a Sound Complete Its Life II.’
There are also complex pieces such as ‘Spork’ and ‘An Ironic Yet Devastating Demand,’ as well as arpeggios that resemble sparkling mirrors in the album’s title track and ‘Success in Circuit Lies I,‘ among other songs. The airy notes throughout this album expand in several songs such as ‘Sorry I Threw Away All Your Nails,‘ which reminds me of Expanding Records artists such as Vessel (Gavin Toomey) and Benge (Ben Edwards).
Loula Yorke’s music is a “continuous flow of sound,” as she comments in the interview, while ‘Time is a Succession of Such Shapes’ suggests a diverse and changing harmonic kaleidoscope.
