Yoke
Alexandre Degrgue es un músico experimental que vive en los Alpes Franceses y trabaja bajo el seudónimo de Yoke, creando densas atmósferas a través de sintetizadores modulares, feedback, grabaciones de campo procesadas y otros dispositivos electrónicos que resignifican los sonidos primarios que ocupa Degrgue, para darle forma a nuevos sonidos, todo ello enmarcado en el ambient/drone y el post-industrial.
El sello francés Titania Tapes -que publica “Apnea” el 12 de marzo de 2025- edita en formato de cassette en cuyas portadas se ocupan fotografías en blanco y negro de edificios, casas, iglesias, dándole así una estética oscura, relevando el espacio y la profundidad.
“Apnea” consiste en dos largos tracks, el primero de ellos “D’un fil tendu et altéré” (De un hilo tenso y alterado) comienza con líneas sintetizadas que envuelven al oyente en un espacio cómodo, en el que el cuerpo se relaja y se deja llevar por su aura hipnótica. Sin embargo, hacia la mitad de la pista, las texturas de objetos metálicos producen silbidos creando tensión, que luego se funde poco a poco en un drone.
El segundo track “Never touch the lights” asoman ondas sonoras penetrantes que parecen envolverse en un loop y flotar por el espacio en un tiempo infinitos y tal como sucede en el primer tema, emergen pequeños ruidos que se combinan con campanillas titilantes que brillan en este oscuro paisaje sonoro.
En “Apnea”, Alexandre Degrgue teje varias capas de sonido orgánicos que se entrelazan con otros de naturaleza sintetizada, creando ambientes que se encuentran entre el relajo y la tensión.
Alexandre Degrgue is an experimental musician who lives in the French Alps and works under the pseudonym Yoke, creating dense atmospheres through modular synthesizers, feedback, processed field recordings, and other electronic devices that reinterpret the primary sounds Degrgue uses to shape new sounds, all bookended within ambient/drone and post-industrial music.
The French label Titania Tapes, which released ‘Apnea’ on March 12, 2025, is publishing it in cassette format with black and white photographs of buildings, houses, and churches on the covers, giving it a dark aesthetic that highlights space and depth.
‘Apnea’ consists of two long tracks, the first of which, “D’un fil tendu et altéré” (From a tense and altered thread), begins with synthesized lines that envelop the listener in a comfortable space, where the body relaxes and is carried away by its hypnotic aura. However, halfway through the track, the textures of metallic objects produce whistling sounds, creating tension, which then gradually merges into a drone.
The second track, ‘Never touch the lights,’ features penetrating sound waves that seem to wrap themselves in a loop and float through space in endless time. As in the first track, and as the song progresses, small noises emerge and combine with twinkling bells that shine in this dark soundscape.
On ‘Apnea,’ Alexandre Degrgue weaves together several layers of organic sounds that intertwine with others of a synthesized nature, creating atmospheres that lie somewhere between relaxation and tension.
