El nuevo álbum de Saagara, «3 The Shackleton Versions», es la tercera entrega del compositor, productor y multiinstrumentista polaco Waclaw Zimpel y cuatro virtuosos músicos del sur de la India: los percusionistas Giridhar Udupa (ghatam), Aggu Baba (khanjira), K Raja (thavil) y el violinista Mysore N. Karthik. Los cuatro se hacen llamar Saagara que significa mar.
En los últimos siete años Zimpel se ha posicionado como uno de clarinetistas/saxofonistas más prominentes en la escena de jazz polaca y a poco andar se ha convertido, en uno de los músicos y productores electrónicos más connotados de Europa.
Para el disco «3 The Shackleton Versions» -lanzado el 24 de octubre de 2025 por Glitterbeat/tak:til- Zimpel le solicitó al renombrado músico electrónico experimental británico Sam Shackleton que remezclara a su elección una canción de “3” (2024). El resultado fueron seis nuevas versiones en las que prevalecen las licuosas e hipnóticas texturas electrónicas con el sello Shackleton. Ambos han trabajado antes; en los álbumes «Primal Forms» (2020) y «In The Cell of Dreams» (2023).
Las nuevas versiones comienzan con “God of Bangalore” que mantiene un beat palpitante junto a la percusión india y el sinuoso violín. “Sunbeam Spirits“ continúa con el ritmo de la tradición musical carnática, junto a una electrónica oscura y el clarinete aéreo de Zimpel. En “The Rite of Rain” emergen el sonido de órgano setentero de Shackleton, en tanto la percusión se despliega como telón de fondo. En “Northern Wind Brings Redemption” se producen dos momentos interesantes: la sesión rítmica con un atisbo techno y las nubes ambientales que se entrelazan entre sí.
“Where Is That Blossom” es el track más contemplativo en el que surge un cántico ceremonioso y alado que se combina con las tablas y tambores indios. Finalmente “Earth, Water and the Holy Groove” cierra este disco con un groove cautivador y líneas de bajo envolventes.
Estas versiones de Shackleton tienen un carácter contemplativo y un aire psicodélico que insinúan un viaje ligero, sin sobrecargas que inspiran liviandad.
Saagara’s new album, ‘3 The Shackleton Versions’, is the third release by Polish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Waclaw Zimpel and four virtuoso musicians from southern India: percussionists Giridhar Udupa (ghatam), Aggu Baba (khanjira), K Raja (thavil) and violinist Mysore N. Karthik. The quartet call themselves Saagara, which means sea.
Over the last seven years, Zimpel has established himself as one of the most prominent clarinetists/saxophonists on the Polish jazz scene and has quickly become one of Europe’s most renowned electronic musicians and producers.
For the album ‘3 The Shackleton Versions’ -released on 24 October 2025 by Glitterbeat/tak:til- Zimpel asked renowned British experimental electronic musician Sam Shackleton to remix a song of his choice from ‘3’ (2024). The result was six new versions in which the smooth, hypnotic electronic textures characteristic of Shackleton prevail. The two have worked together before, on the albums ‘Primal Forms’ (2020) and ‘In The Cell of Dreams’ (2023).
The new versions begin with ‘God of Bangalore,’ which maintains a pulsating beat alongside Indian percussion and sinuous violin. ‘Sunbeam Spirits’ continues with the rhythm of the Carnatic musical tradition, alongside dark electronics and Zimpel’s airy clarinet. In ‘The Rite of Rain,’ Shackleton’s 70s organ sound emerges, while percussion unfolds in the background. In ‘Northern Wind Brings Redemption,’ there are two interesting moments: the rhythm section with a hint of techno and the ambient clouds that intertwine with each other.
‘Where Is That Blossom’ is the most contemplative track, featuring a ceremonial, winged chant combined with Indian tabla and drums. Finally, ‘Earth, Water and the Holy Groove’ closes the album with a captivating groove and enveloping bass lines.
These versions by Shackleton have a contemplative character and a psychedelic air that hint at a light journey, without overloads that inspire lightness.
