«Will Laut EP» publicado el 31 de mayo de 2024 por el sello sueco Wavetrap, navega por las aguas palpitantes del synth-pop cuyas reminiscencias refieren a DAF/Suicide/Kraftwerk; ése sonido ochentero de sintetizadores y cajas de ritmo, desplegando un beat sugestivo e hipnótico, junto a un falsete oscuro entre Gary Numan y David Sylvian.
Frankie Gothard aka COH/Ivan Pavlov, es un artista sonoro e ingeniero, quien fue un connotado músico de la escena de la música electrónica experimental en los ’90, que lo llevó a colaborar con John Balance de Coil y Cosey Fanni Tutti de Chris & Cosey y ex Throbbing Gristle. William Laut, en tanto, posee variadas actividades musicales que van desde trabajar con coros de niños hasta componer himnos de rock y organizar festivales de música asiática.
Para “Cryptoman Remixes EP” -a editarse el próximo 26 de septiembre por el sello de Ivan Pavlov, Wavetrap- se invitó a artistas a fines a la música de Will Laut como SHXCXCHCXSH, Carl Stone, Atom™, Nathan Fake y COH.
El dúo afincado en Suecia, SHXCXCHCXSH debutaron en 2013 y dirigen el sello Rösten Records. Carl Stone por su parte, es uno de los pioneros de la música por computador en vivo, precursor del collage sonoro y ha sido denominado como «el rey del sampleo». Desde 1986 que usa computadoras en sus presentaciones en vivo. En tanto, se han editado una veintena de discos entre álbumes, singles y compilados. Atom™ -hoy residente en Santiago de Chile- con más de 45 años de trayectoria, es uno de los músicos más prolíficos de la música electrónica, con más de 130 lanzamientos a su haber e innumerables seudónimos y proyectos. Nathan Fake es un DJ y productor británico que emerge en la escena underground, influenciado por la música de Aphex Twin y Orbital.
“Cryptoman Remixes EP” abre con la remezcla de COH que se mueve con soltura con un beat 4×4 que evoca al techno teutónico de Kraftwerk. Luego sigue “Cryptoman (SHXCXCHCXSH Remix)” que muestra un ritmo que flirtea con el industrial, donde los beats se confunden con fuertes latigazos, además de la voz seductora de Will Laut. “Cryptoman (AtomTM Remix)” presenta un beat uniforme y sostenido, junto a ruidos sintetizados retorcidos que, a medida que progresa el track, Schmidt incorpora pequeñas notas y abre un espacio para que el canto de Will Laut fluya con mayor holgura. “Cryptoman (Carl Stone Remix)” es un collage sonoro de samples que contiene pequeños fragmentos reconvertidos que conforman distintas capas de espejos rutilantes. Cierra este EP, “Cryptoman (Nathan Fake Remix)” en la vertiente minimal techno que está más enfocado a la mente que al baile, aunque lo último sea inevitable. Mientras su carácter aéreo invita a dejarse llevar por el beat hipnótico.
Así, cada remezcla al original «Cryptoman» de ritmo robótico y ascendente, entrega nuevas sonoridades que atraviesan las sintetizadas melodías pegadizas de los ’80 hasta llegar a la actual vanguardia electrónica.

Frankie Gothard, aka COH/Ivan Pavlov, is a sound artist and engineer who was a renowned musician on the experimental electronic music scene in the 1990s, leading him to collaborate with John Balance of Coil and Cosey Fanni Tutti of Chris & Cosey and former Throbbing Gristle. William Laut, meanwhile, has a wide range of musical activities, from working with children’s choirs to composing rock anthems and organizing Asian music festivals.
For ‘Cryptoman Remixes EP’—to be released on September 26 on Ivan Pavlov’s label, Wavetrap—artists like-minded to Will Laut’s music were invited, such as SHXCXCHCXSH, Carl Stone, Atom™, Nathan Fake, and COH.
The Sweden-based duo SHXCXCHCXSH debuted in 2013 and run the Rösten Records label. Carl Stone, meanwhile, is one of the pioneers of live computer music, a precursor of sound collage, who has been called “the king of sampling.” He has been using computers in his live performances since 1986. Meanwhile, they have released around twenty albums, singles, and compilations. Atom™, now based in Santiago, Chile, with more than 45 years of experience, is one of the most prolific musicians in electronic music, with more than 130 releases to his name and countless pseudonyms and projects. Nathan Fake is a British DJ and producer who emerged on the underground scene, influenced by the music of Aphex Twin and Orbital.
‘Cryptoman Remixes EP’ opens with COH’s remix, which moves smoothly with a 4×4 beat reminiscent of Kraftwerk’s Teutonic Techno. This is followed by ‘Cryptoman (SHXCXCHCXSH Remix),’ which features a rhythm that flirts with Industrial, where the beats are mixed with strong lashes, in addition to Will Laut’s seductive voice. ‘Cryptoman (AtomTM Remix)’ features a steady, sustained beat alongside twisted synthesized noises. As the track progresses, Schmidt incorporates small notes and opens up space for Will Laut’s vocals to flow more freely. ‘Cryptoman (Carl Stone Remix)’ is a sound collage of samples containing small reconverted fragments that form different layers of glittering mirrors. Closing this EP is ‘Cryptoman (Nathan Fake Remix)’ in the minimal techno vein, which is more focused on the mind than on dancing, although the latter is inevitable. Meanwhile, its airy character invites the listener to let itself be carried away by the hypnotic beat.
Thus, each remix of the original ‘Cryptoman,’ with its robotic and ascending rhythm, delivers new sounds that traverse the catchy synthesized melodies of the ’80s to reach the current electronic avant-garde.
