Zavoloka

Zavoloka aka Katia Zavoloka es una joven músico y diseñadora gráfica de Kiev, Ucrania. Su música se enmarca dentro del campo de la música digitales que funde con sus raíces que se plasman por la vía de la percusión tribal y el procesamiento de voces que cantan en ucraniano. Además de imprevisibles y complejos sonidos comprimidos bajo el ambiente de programas musicales.
Su primer álbum “Suspenzia” fue editado en formato MP3 en 2003 [que este año sale en CD], el CD-R 3 pulgadas “1” [Zeromoon, 2004];, su nuevo álbum “Plavyna” [Nexsound, 2005] que tiene una fuerte influencia del folk nativo. Junto a la alemana AGF [aka Antye Greie-Fuchs, Laub, AGF/Delay] trabajaron en el álbum “Nature Never Produces The Same Beat Twice” que saldrá próximamente, así también su sesión improvisada en vivo con Kotra en mayo de este año que publicará el sello Live Reports en CD-R y MP3 con el nombre de “Untitled Live”. Zavoloka ha participado en varios festivales realizados en Ucrania, Rusia y Europa.

Zavoloka, aka Katia Zavoloka is a young musician and graphic designer from Kiev, Ukraine. Her music moves into the digital field that blends with her ethno folk roots shaped by the rhythm of the tribal percussion and processed voices sung in Ukrainian. In addition to the unexpected and complex compressed sounds under the software design environment.
Her discography comprised the first album ‘Suspenzia’ released on Nexsound on MP3 in 2003 [this year was re-released on CD], the CD-R 3 inches ‘1’ [Zeromoon, 2004]; her new album ‘Plavyna’ [Nexsound, 2005] which is very influenced by the Ukrainian folk music. Along with German laptop artist AGF [aka Antye Greie-Fuchs, Laub, AGF/Delay] they worked in the album ‘Nature Never Produces The Same Beat Twice’ to be released soon, also a collaborative live improv session with Kotra in May of this year will be out soon on the Live Reports imprint on CD-R and MP3 with the name of ‘Untitled Live’. Zavoloka has participated in several festivals held in Ukraine, Russia and Europe.

**¿De qué forma tu medio ambiente [social, político, cultural y natural] influencia tu música, a fin de de crear los paisajes sonoros en “Suspenzia”?**
“Fue inspiración de la naturaleza de Ucrania y las canciones étnicas ucranianas que me hacen llorar siempre 🙂 No es un álbum político :)”.

**Muchos de los temas [en “Suspenzia”] tienen una interesante percusión tribal y voces que cantan en ucraniano que se combinan perfectamente junto a sonidos sintéticos. ¿Esta mezcla es la que te gustaría continuar explorando?**
“Quiero hacer música que no sea ordinaria, sino que deseo hacer mi propio estilo y es así como es 🙂 Me gustan diferentes tambores, melodías y voces en ucraniano”.

**¿Nos podrías contar acerca de las colaboraciones que tienes con AGF y Kotra?**
“Trabajo con AGF [Antye Greie-Fuchs] en ‘Nature Never Produces The Same Beat Twice’. Será un álbum más bailable. Como el techno en los árboles 🙂 Con Kotra también vamos a hacer composiciones rítmicas y melodías rhythm’n’blues; más experimental :)”.

**¿Aparentemente tu trabajo musical en Kiev está más relacionado con la escena electrónica foránea, que con otros artistas ucranianos [aparte de los músicos de Nexsound]?**

**In which way your environment [social, political, cultural and natural] influenced your music in order to create the soundscapes on ‘Suspenzia’?**
“It was inspired by Ukrainian nature and Ukrainian ethnic songs, which make me, cry all the time 🙂 Its non political album :)”.

**Many of the tracks have interesting tribal percussion and voices sung by Ukrainian natives that combine perfectly alongwith synthetic sounds. This blend it is something that you would like to explore further?**
“I want to make music, that not ordinary, I want to make my own style and this is the way is like 🙂 I love different drums, melodies and Ukrainian voice :)”.

**Please tell us about the collaborations you have with AGF and Kotra.**
“Work with AGF like ‘Nature never produces the same beat twice’. It will be more danceable album. Like tekkno in the trees 🙂 With Kotra we also will make rhythmic compositions + rhythm’n’blues melodies, more experimental :)”.

**It seems your musical work in Kiev it’s more related with electronic scenes abroad than with other Ukrainian artists [apart of the Nexsound team]?**
