Ned Milligan is a New York-based educator and musician who crafts immersive ambient music by seamlessly blending acoustic instrumentation with electronic textures. Over the course of his career, his evocative soundscapes have found a home on notable independent labels including LAAPS, Fluid Audio, Cached, and Objects & Sounds.

His latest album, ‘Real Fun,’ is released via his own imprint, Florabelle—a curated platform dedicated to championing experimental artists. The ten-track album is a richly layered ambient tapestry woven from field recordings, autoharp, bells, and processed piano, further elevated by collaborative acoustic contributions from a handful of guest musicians.

At its core, ‘Real Fun’ is driven by a profound emotional duality: the everyday joy of raising his young son and the lingering grief of losing his own parents early in life. The resulting album is a moving sonic diary that radiates gratitude for fleeting, ordinary moments, serving as an intimate and lasting tribute to his family’s legacy.

Released on September 18, 2026, via the Florabelle imprint, Real Fun is a ten-track collection that opens with «The Opener.» This introductory piece captures an intimate snippet of dialogue between a father and son walking through a rainy day, where the delicate chime of bells and their hurried footsteps intertwine with suspended piano notes. Further in, ‘Four Patch Snapdragons (feat. Lake Mary)’ allows birdsong to emerge from the silence, clearing the path for staccato electronic textures that eventually loop into a rhythmic piano phrase. Meanwhile, ‘Rolling A Drum Down A Hill’ leans into the spontaneous joy of playtime, punctuated by brief, genuine bursts of laughter.

The second half of the album shifts into ‘Rainbow Rubberneckers,’ unfurling field recordings of metallic objects clanging together against a dense, atmospheric backdrop. On ‘oh nice, a postcard from andrew (feat. andrew cs),’ the acoustic environment constricts into an enclosed space, ending abruptly with the tactile, analog click of a tape recorder powering down. The rhythmic wash of ‘Isn’t That Something?’ beautifully mimics the lapping shoreline of a lake or sea, leading into the gentle closer ‘Standing Centre, Beaming (feat. Zander Raymond),’ where birdsong and delicate micro-melodies nod gracefully to the minimalist aesthetic of Federico Durand.

On ‘A Moment With My Dad (An Abstraction To My Son),’ a faint background murmur evokes a distant telephone conversation, drift-painted over piano chords that feel beautifully frayed and distorted at the edges. From there, ‘We Need Groceries (feat. M. Sage)’ unfolds against a steady downpour as Matt Sage unspools a series of melancholic guitar chords. This same acoustic warmth anchors the poignant closer, ‘I Love You, Bud’—completing a fragile, deeply moving album that ultimately serves as a quiet monument to the natural, heartfelt bond between father and son.
