Akira Kosemura
Akira Kosemura es un pianista y compositor residente en Tokio. Activo desde 2004, ha desarrollado una prolífica carrera tras aparecer en diversos recopilatorios y publicar numerosos álbumes bajo su propio sello discográfico, Schole Records, el cual promueve tanto a artistas locales como internacionales. Desde 2007, varios de sus discos han sido reseñados en Loop, consolidando una colaboración que se extiende por casi 20 años.
Además de sus trabajos como solista, compone música para cine, series de televisión, videojuegos, teatro y música comercial. Algunas películas destacadas son «From the Gulag with Love» y «The Boy and the Dog», dirigidas por Takahisa Zeze; la película «True Mothers», dirigida por Naomi Kawase (selección oficial del Festival de Cannes); la serie de televisión de Hollywood «Love Is», entre otras.
En 2025, emprende un nuevo proyecto MIRAI (que significa “futuro” en japonés) en el que canta, destacándose la participación de Devendra Banhart, Mr Hudson, Baths, Benjamin Gustafsson, Saro, Tom Adams y Miyuki Hatakeyama.
El nuevo disco de Kosemura es la banda sonora original de “This Is I”, película que se estrenó en Netflix el 10 de febrero 2026. Incluye 25 piezas de música clásica moderna con piano y otros instrumentos. El álbum arranca con la canción “This Is I” donde las frases de piano y violines que acompañan crean una atmósfera alegre de melodías edificantes. Mientras que otros pasajes, como “The Way To The Clinic” de carácter ambiental e inquietante, hacen presagiar situaciones que generan miedo o tristeza, como en “Taking medicine” y “Conflict Between”. “Have me surgery” es esperanzadora, en tanto «I Can’t Live Like This» evoca una escena de recogimiento, así como “Rain Doesn’t Stop” con sus pulcras notas de piano de tonos melancólicos, lo que se refleja en varias canciones que se suceden, hasta que “I Become Me” sugiere un renacer. La música por cierto evoca la historia detrás de “This Is I” que narra el fuerte vínculo entre dos personas, en base a la emoción de la confianza. Ai, uno de los protagonistas de la película, “sueña con convertirse en ídolo y el Dr. Wada, quien carga con su propia cicatriz emocional. Juntos, luchan por abrirse camino en un viaje a veces alegre y a veces brutal”.
En «The Cornerstone Of Hope», los delicados acordes de guitarra y violín se entrelazan con frases de piano, creando el sello distintivo de nuestro protagonista; una composición que cautiva por su sutileza y belleza de sus arreglos.

Akira Kosemura is a pianist and composer based in Tokyo. Active since 2004, he has built a prolific career, appearing on various compilations and releasing numerous albums on his own record label, Schole Records, which promotes both local and international artists. Since 2007, several of his albums have been reviewed in Loop, cementing a collaboration that has spanned almost 20 years.
In addition to his work as a solo artist, he composes music for films, television series, video games, theatre and commercial music. Notable films include ‘From the Gulag with Love’ and ‘The Boy and the Dog’, directed by Takahisa Zeze; the film ‘True Mothers’, directed by Naomi Kawase (official selection at the Cannes Film Festival); and the Hollywood television series ‘Love Is’, amongst others.

Kosemura’s new album is the original soundtrack to‘This Is I,’ a film which premiered on Netflix on 10 February 2026. It includes 25 pieces of modern classical music featuring piano and other instruments. The album opens with the track ‘This Is I,’ where the accompanying piano and violin phrases create a joyful atmosphere of uplifting melodies. Whereas, other passages, such as the atmospheric and unsettling ‘The Way To The Clinic,’ foreshadow situations that evoke fear or sadness, as on ‘Taking medicine’ and ‘Conflict Between.’ ‘Have Me Surgery’ is hopeful, whilst ‘I Can’t Live Like This’ evokes a scene of contemplation, as does ‘Rain Doesn’t Stop’ with its neat piano notes and melancholic tones, a mood reflected in several subsequent tracks, until “I Become Me” suggests a rebirth. The music certainly evokes the story behind ‘This Is I,’ which tells of the strong bond between two people, based on the emotion of trust. Ai, one of the film’s protagonists, “dreams of becoming an idol, whilst Dr Wada carries his own emotional scar. Together, they struggle to find their way on a journey that is at times joyful and at times brutal”.
On ‘The Cornerstone Of Hope,’ delicate guitar and violin chords intertwine with piano phrases, creating our protagonist’s signature sound; a composition that captivates with its subtlety and the beauty of its arrangements.
A master in the art of evoking emotions, Akira Kosemura excels at conjuring atmospheres that are both unsettling and filled with calm and hope.
