Andrew Liles’s new “Zenerphobia” album
Andrew Liles es uno de los artistas más prolíficos de los últimos tiempos. Con una vasta discografía, sus recursos parecen nunca agotarse. Establecido en Yorkshire, norte de Inglaterra, se le conoce por ser miembro activo de bandas icónicas como Nurse With Wound y Current 93.
En septiembre recién pasado, recibimos una de sus ultimas entregas, un exquisito disco lleno de texturas muy futuristas en sonido, pero nostálgico en su atmósfera; entre lo post punk y lo más indie que Liles ha hecho. Se destaca por unas guitarras perfectamente armadas y unas líneas de bajo que podrían deleitar a cualquiera. El trabajo en estudio es impecable (algo característico en él, es la ausencia de saturación, pero con un alto nivel sónico y potencia). El disco nos presenta 18 pistas en su versión CDR, con canciones en varios idiomas que incluyen inglés, francés, alemán y español castellano.
Con un tiraje de sólo 60 copias (tenemos en Loop la número 44), este trabajo fue grabado en Bear Den, West Yorshire, “Zenerphobia” es un bello disco, que toma distancia de la oscuridad característica de Liles, pero no se aleja en demasía; es un disco para quien gusta de la antiguamente llamada música alternativa.
“Zenerphobia” es una banda sonora imaginaria que pertenece a un neologismo imaginario. Para los que fuimos formados en estudios sociales y culturales – como el mismo Liles – sus conceptos y títulos están llenos de humor arcano y sátira (algo necesario en tiempos de ruinas) y que como decía el viejo adagio ocultista; “sabrás por su silbido, que es el brujo el que pasa”.
Andrew Liles is one of the most prolific artists of recent times. With a vast discography, his resources seem to never run out. Based in Yorkshire, northern England, he is known for being an active member of iconic bands such as Nurse With Wound and Current 93.
Last September, we received one of his latest releases, an exquisite album full of very futuristic textures in sound, but nostalgic in its atmosphere; between the post punk and the most indie that Liles has done. It stands out for perfectly assembled guitars and bass lines that could delight anyone. The work in the studio is impeccable (something characteristic of him is the absence of saturation, but with a high sonic level and power). The album presents us with 18 tracks in its CDR version, with songs in several languages that include English, French, German and Castilian Spanish.
With a print run of just 60 copies (we have number 44 on Loop), this work was recorded at Bear Den, West Yorkshire, ‘Zenerphobia’ is a beautiful album, which takes distance from the darkness characteristic of Liles, but does not stray too far; it is an album for those who like the so-called alternative music of the past.
‘Zenerphobia’ is an imaginary soundtrack that belongs to an imaginary neologism. For those of us who were trained in social and cultural studies – like Liles himself – its concepts and titles are full of arcane humor and satire (something necessary in times of ruins) and as the old occult adage goes; “you will know by his whistle that it is the wizard who passes by.”
