Başak Günak
Başak Günak es un artista sonora y compositora turca nacido en Estambul y afincada en Berlín. Su trabajo abarca las instalaciones sonoras, actuaciones, arte sonoro y composición para teatro y danza contemporánea. También es bien conocida por su proyecto AH! KOSMOS en el campo de la música electrónica. Ha publicado dos LPs en solitario en Compost Records y Denovali Records y otros dos LPs en colaboración y numerosos EPs. Los que han tenido una buena acogida de la crítica como su álbum “Beautiful Swamp” (2018) de Ah! Kosmos que fue incluido en la lista de Mejores Álbumes de 2018 por Deutschlandfunk Kultur y “Bluets” fue seleccionado por Byte.FM, como Mejores Álbumes de 2022. Günak se ha presentado en varios festivales como el Barbican Theatre (Reino Unido), Martin-Gropius Bau (Alemania), Royal Theater Carré (Países Bajos), Sónar Festival (España), Berlin CTM Festival (Alemania), Rotterdamse Schouwburg (Países Bajos) y Prague Quadrennial (República Checa).
En “Rewilding” Günak toca el halldrophone (instrumento electro-acústico parecido al chelo), órgano, Buchla 100, electrónica, piano y programación. Las grabaciones del Buchla 100 y el halldrophone fueron realizada en el mítico estudio sueco Elektronmusikstudion Stockholm. Como invitado Isak Hedtjärn toca el bajo clarinete
En este disco los paisajes sonoros que se desarrollan incluyen registros de campo y elementos como voces distantes de sus instalaciones sonoras. Se agregan otros elementos orgánicos como suspiros y silbidos por los que navega el clarinete con sus largas notas que resuenan en el ambiente, junto a pequeños ruidos de objetos encontrados.
«Rewilding» se desenvuelve en una atmósfera inquietante en la que se producen profundos drones que invitan a escuchar una música meditativa.
Başak Günak is a Turkish sound artist and composer born in Istanbul and based in Berlin. Her work encompasses sound installations, performance, sound art and composition for theatre and contemporary dance. She is also well known for her project AH! KOSMOS in the field of electronic music. She has released two solo LPs on Compost Records and Denovali Records and two collaborative LPs and several Eps which were critical acclaimed such as the album «Beautiful Swamp» (2018) as Ah! Kosmos, which was included in the list of Best Albums of 2018 by Deutschlandfunk Kultur and ‘Bluets’ was selected by Byte.FM, as Best Albums of 2022. Günak has performed at various festivals such as the Barbican Theatre (UK), Martin-Gropius Bau (Germany), Royal Theater Carré (Netherlands), Sónar Festival (Spain), Berlin CTM Festival (Germany), Rotterdamse Schouwburg (Netherlands) and Prague Quadrennial (Czech Republic).
In ‘Rewilding’ Günak plays the halldrophone (electro-acoustic cello-like instrument), organ, Buchla 100, electronics, piano and programming. The recordings of the Buchla 100 and the halldrophone were made at the legendary Swedish studio Elektronmusikstudion Stockholm. Isak Hedtjärn plays bass clarinet as a guest.
On this album the soundscapes that develop include field recordings and elements such as haunted voices from her sound installations. Other organic elements are added such as whispers and whistles through which the clarinet navigates with its long notes echoing in the environment, together with small noises of found objects.
‘Rewilding’ unfolds in an unsettling atmosphere in which deep drones are produced, inviting us to listen to meditative music.
