Driftwood
Driftwood es un nuevo proyecto del dúo formado por Nick Ashwood, compositor e intérprete de música experimental de Nipaluna, Tasmania y Aviva Endean, clarinetista, compositora, artista sonora y creadora de performances.
Ambos son activos artistas afincados en Sidney que pertenecen a los colectivos experimentales/improvisadores de Naarm y el grupo con sede en Sydney, The Splinter Orchestra.
En el álbum homónimo publicado en noviembre 2024 por el prestigioso sello australiano Room40, Ashwood toca la guitarra acústica y el órgano, en tanto Endean, clarinete y órgano.
La resonancia del órgano de lengüetas está omnipresente en todo el álbum, como un tapiz sonoro de fondo que envuelve con sus vibraciones y atisbos al folk, sobre el que Endean esparce en un vuelo sinuoso, un sonido melancólico y conmovedor, mientras Ashwood teje bellos acordes con su guitarra e interactúa con Endean en un maravilloso diálogo de órgano.
El dúo crea un ambiente calmo y discreto desplegando en éste un sonido que atrapa por su solemnidad.
Driftwood is a new project by the duo of Nick Ashwood, a composer and performer of experimental music from Nipaluna, Tasmania, and Aviva Endean, a clarinetist, composer, sound artist and performance maker.
Both are active Sydney-based artists who belong to the experimental/improvisational collectives Naarm and the Sydney-based group, The Splinter Orchestra.
On the self-titled album released in November 2024 on the prestigious Australian label Room40, Ashwood plays acoustic guitar and organ, while Endean plays clarinet and organ.
The resonance of the reed organ is omnipresent throughout the album, as a backdrop tapestry of sound that envelops with its vibrations and hints of folk, over which Endean spreads in a sinuous flight, a melancholic and soulful sound, while Ashwood weaves beautiful chords with his guitar and interacts with Endean in a gorgeous organ dialogue.
The duo creates a calm, understated ambience, unfurling a sound that is gripping in its solemnity.
