Whettman Chelmets
Whettman Chelmets es un músico afincado en Tulsa, Oklahoma quien abarca varios géneros como el ambient, drone y shoegaze, lanzando nueve álbumes y algunos EP’s en los últimos cinco años en los sellos Flaming Pines, Submarine Broadcasting, Girly Girl, Strategic y Tape Reserve, entre otros.
“A New Place” nace a partir de una canción con ribetes poéticos que improvisa su pequeña hija, agregando luego una paleta de sonidos a través de grabaciones de campo, guitarra, sintetizadores y trompeta.
La canción que abre el álbum, “Prelude to A New Place” tiene un comienzo ruidoso que se apacigua con la voces encantadoras de sus hijos, Lucy y Reese. A continuación se desarrolla un baño de capas con remolinos de guitarra y líneas de sintetizadores ambientales que generan una densa atmósfera que luego se va disipando en la medida que progresa la canción hasta llegar a un lugar tranquilo y acogedor.
La canción homónima se sumerge en una brumosa niebla, por la que comienzan a emerger líneas melódicas de la guitarra de bordes saturados que toma una forma alada de contornos melancólicos.
El cierre, con “Longing for a New Place, promete ser ese lugar deseado en el que los pequeños sonidos de objetos caseros, junto a unos breves acordes de la guitarra pasan por un bálsamo ambient que Whettman Chelmets nos invita a experimentar.

“A New Place” was born from a song with poetic edges that his little daughter improvised, adding a palette of sounds incorporating field recordings, guitar, synthesizers and trumpet.
The album’s opening track, “Prelude to A New Place,” has a loud start that subsides with the enchanting vocals of his children, Lucy and Reese. A layered bath then unfurls with swirling guitar and ambient synth lines that generate a dense atmosphere that then dissipates as the song progresses until reaching a calm and welcoming place.
The eponymous song is submerged in a misty fog, through which melodic guitar lines with saturated edges begin to emerge taking a winged form with melancholic contours.
The closing, with “Longing for a New Place,” promises to be that desired place in which the small sounds of household objects, along with some brief guitar chords, pass through an ambient balm that Whettman Chelmets invites us to experience.
