“The Devil And The River” consiste en dos largos tracks que despliegan drones de guitarra, creando un paisaje sonoro que evoca un vasto territorio; de naturaleza casi desértica y montañas rocosas que representan la zona rural de Nuevo México donde vive William Fowler Collins, compositor y guitarrista que abarca un amplio abanico de géneros como la clásica moderna, drone, minimalismo y la improvisación libre. Lo que se traduce en una discografía publicada en los sellos SIGE, Type, Karl Records, Blackest Rainbow, Handmade Birds, Daymare, Sicksicksick, Tapeworm y Root Strata.
Fowler Collins tiene los proyectos paralelos Thalassa (junto a Aaron Turner) y Mesa Ritual (formado con Rave Chacón) con los cuales ha publicado discos y ha colaborado también con renombrados artistas de música experimental/drone/noise como James Jackson Toth, Pyramids, Daniel Menche y Mamiffer / Pyramids.
Collins comenzó a enfocarse en tocar esta música en sus giras europeas del 2022-2023 con el cantante, guitarrista y artista gráfico, Aaron Turner y con la cantautora Emma Ruth Rundle.
El álbum abre con “The Church Steps In Montreuil” en cuya extensión de 15 minutos se muestra ondas sonoras ondulantes donde el acorde vibra eternamente esparciendo líneas melódicas que van mutando lentamente. En tanto, el segundo track “A Horse Head Within A Star” de 18 minutos, los drones producen ráfagas de ruido que pasan por momentos silentes y que luego vuelven con fuerza.
Collins en este trabajo crea ambientes que gatillan imágenes que se extienden, evolucionan y crean estados de ánimo proclives a la contemplación.

“The Devil And The River” consists of two long tracks that deploy guitar drones, creating a soundscape that evokes a vast territory; of almost desert nature and rocky mountains that represent the rural area of New Mexico where composer and guitarist William Fowler Collins lives. who encompasses a wide range of genres such as modern classical, drone, minimalism and free improvisation. This translates into a discography published on labels like SIGE, Type, Karl Records, Blackest Rainbow, Handmade Birds, Daymare, Sicksicksick, Tapeworm and Root Strata.
Collins has the side projects Thalassa (with Aaron Turner) and Mesa Ritual (formed with Rave Chacón) with which he has published albums. He also collaborates with renowned experimental/drone/noise music artists such as James Jackson Toth, Pyramids, Daniel Menche and Mamiffer / Pyramids.
Collins began focusing on playing this music in 2022-2023 European tours with singer, guitarist and graphic artist Aaron Turner and singer-songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle.
The album opens with “The Church Steps In Montreuil” which spans 15 minutes and features undulating sound waves where the chord vibrates endlessly, spreading melodic lines that slowly mutate. Meanwhile, on the second track “A Horse Head Within A Star” which runs for 18 minutes, drones produce bursts of noise that pass through silent moments and then come back strongly.
In this work, Collins creates environments that trigger images that extend, evolve and create moods conducive to contemplation.
