«Throb, shiver, arrow of time» su más reciente álbum despliega su sello característico de oleadas de cuerdas que desde el silencio articulan sutiles armonías hasta llegar al pináculo de lo que parece ser, un conjunto de cuerdas convulsionadas (y procesadas) y profundamente emotivas que destilan nostalgia y melancolía.
En este viaje de tintes cinematográficos y neoclásicos Coates construye distintas capas de cuerdas que digitalmente procesa; estrechándolas, aletargándolas y acelerando su pitch, todo ello acompañado por las voces de las colaboradores; la artista francesa de música electrónica Malibu y Chrysanthemum Bear, junto a las líneas sintetizadas aéreas de Faten Kanaan.
Charlotte Wells, quien escribió y dirigió la película «Aftersun», le preguntó a Coates cómo podía la música señalar que alguien estaba haciendo un recorrido por su memoria. La respuesta fue que este álbum trata “de transmisiones imprecisas de nuestros recuerdos…” Y es lo que nuestro protagonista intenta plasmar en este disco. Esa memoria difusa y sombría, junto a una ventana esperanzadora que enfila su camino por la «flecha del tiempo».

In this cinematic, neo-classical-tinged journey Coates builds up layers of strings that he digitally processes; tightening them, slowing them down and accelerating their pitch, all accompanied by the voices of collaborators; French electronic music artist Malibu and Chrysanthemum Bear, along with Faten Kanaan’s airy synthesized lines.
Charlotte Wells, who wrote and directed the film ‘Aftersun’, asked Coates how the music could signal that someone was taking a trip down memory lane. The answer was that this album is about ‘imprecise transmissions of our memories…’. And that is what our protagonist tries to capture on this album. That fuzzy and sombre memory, together with a hopeful window that threads its way through the ‘arrow of time’.
