El nuevo álbum colaborativo de Daniel Miller (The Normal, Come, Duet Emmo) y Gareth Jones (productor de Depeche Mode, Einstürzende Neubauten, Erasure) representa la tercera entrega del dúo bajo el nombre de Sunroof.
Este trabajo fue grabado utilizando sintetizadores modulares de los años 70, conocidos como Euroracks, y la misma grabadora de 4 pistas Teac que dio forma a los primeros lanzamientos del sello Mute Records, incluidos trabajos de The Normal, Silicon Teens, Come, Duet Emmo y los primeros sencillos de Depeche Mode.
Tanto la música como el trabajo estético, la dirección de arte y la pintura del propio Gareth Jones (utilizada como portada del álbum) reflejan lo analógico como concepto y desarrollo creativo, dando como resultado una obra de arte completa con miras hacia el futuro y trazos del pasado.
Esta producción, publicada el 29 de noviembre de 2024 en una edición limitada a 1,000 copias en vinilo, supone una evolución respecto a las dos entregas anteriores: Electronic Improvisation Volume 1 (2019) y Electronic Improvisation Volume 2 (2023) de Parallel Series. Los temas de los discos anteriores llevaban nombres basados en números o fechas de grabación, lo que enfatizaba un enfoque puramente documental y minimalista sobre el proceso creativo. Electronic Improvisation Volume 3 introduce títulos reconocibles para las composiciones, y la música se torna rica en texturas, cruda y orgánica, aportando una capa adicional de narrativa o contexto, sin abandonar el espíritu experimental e innovador.
Las sesiones de grabación se convierten en un espacio de exploración sonora, donde los artistas manipulan las vibraciones eléctricas de los sintetizadores, capturando cada modulación en tiempo real, sin posibilidad de correcciones posteriores. Este enfoque clásico de la improvisación y el trabajo con síntesis modular dota a la música de Sunroof de vitalidad y frescura, explorando nuevas posibilidades sonoras, enfatizando la belleza de lo imperfecto, lo espontáneo y lo impredecible, aportando a que la música electrónica continúe evolucionando y mirando hacia el futuro.

A journey into the future in the digital age, guided by the duo Daniel Miller and Gareth Jones.
The new collaborative album by Daniel Miller (The Normal, Come, Duet Emmo) and Gareth Jones (producer of Depeche Mode, Einstürzende Neubauten, Erasure) represents the duo’s third release under the name Sunroof.

Both the music and the aesthetic work, art direction and Gareth Jones’ own painting (used as the album cover) reflect the analogue as a concept and creative development, resulting in a complete work of art with an eye to the future and traces of the past.
This production, released on 29 November 2024 in a limited edition of 1,000 copies on vinyl, is an evolution from the two previous releases: Electronic Improvisation Volume 1 (2019) and Electronic Improvisation Volume 2 (2023) de Parallel Series. The tracks on the previous albums were named after numbers or recording dates, emphasising a purely documentary and minimalist approach to the creative process. Electronic Improvisation Volume 3 introduces recognisable titles for the compositions, and the music becomes richly textured, raw and organic, providing an additional layer of narrative or context, without abandoning the experimental and innovative spirit.
The recording sessions become a space for sonic exploration, where the artists manipulate the electrical vibrations of the synthesizers, capturing each modulation in real time, without the possibility of subsequent corrections. This classical approach to improvisation and working with modular synthesis endows Sunroof’s music with vitality and freshness, exploring new sonic possibilities, emphasising the beauty of the imperfect, the spontaneous and the unpredictable, helping electronic music to continue to evolve and look to the future.
