Hemos insistido en revisiones anteriores, la importancia de traer de vuelta y sacar a la luz proyectos que en su momento fueron no sólo visionarios, sino que rupturistas y que por azares del destino permanecieron en el anonimato hasta el día de hoy.
Hoy, en nuestro artículo sobre bandas pioneras, subvaloradas y antiguas, queremos poner en valor a Konstruktivists, una banda británica activa desde los años 80tas. Con un sonido futurista de sintetizador análogo (algo no raro en los 80s), la exuberancia auditiva nos recuerda a unos SPK en su etapa cavernaria más dura, unos TG en pleno momento atonal y unos Chris & Cosey y Cabs (Cabaret Voltaire) más bailables, pero no menos brutales.
Emparentados con estos últimos, la escena de aquellos años en UK tenía como protagonistas a bandas como Whitehouse, Cabaret Voltaire, Chris and Cosey, VDO, Clock DVA, entre otros.
La banda fue formada por Glenn Michaels Wallis, e incluye a Mark Crumby, Lawrence Burton, Joseph Ahmed, y R. Alcapone Shiells y sigue activa al día de hoy como dúo. (Konstruktivists)
En esta entrega hemos escogido un compilado “Kollektion 78-95”, publicado por Jara Discs en Reino Unido en 1996. Incluye 15 pistas fantasmagóricas dignas de una banda sonora de películas Severin o la serie Hammer Film Productions. Terror sónico de exquisita imaginería critico paranoica remozada con un toque industrial de zona gris a la James Ballard, los temas poseen nombres como ‘Francis Bacon’, ‘Andropov 84’, ‘Control’ y ‘Jihad’; parecieran anticipar el infierno postmoderno de se avecinaba. Herederos de Burroughs, Gyson, Kubrick y Ballard – como tantos otros -, Konstruktivists nos muestra aquel pesimismo post era que olvidamos en el apogeo de nuestras hazañas neoliberales de los noventas. La banda nos recuerda hoy, que el porvenir y la promesa no eran tan luminosas como pensábamos y que olvidar nuestro lado oscuro como sociedad, era un error que pagaríamos más tarde; esto hoy ya nos parece premonición.

Today, in our article on pioneering, undervalued and old bands, we want to highlight Konstruktivists, a British band active since the 80s. With a futuristic analog synthesizer sound (something not unusual in the 80s), the auditory exuberance reminds us of SPK in their hardest cavernous stage, TG in full atonal moment, and Chris & Cosey and Cabs (Cabaret Voltaire) more danceable, but no less brutal.

In this review we have chosen a compilation ‘Kollektion 78-95’, released by Jara Discs in the UK in 1996. It includes 15 ghostly tracks worthy of a Severin film soundtrack or the Hammer Film Productions series. Sonic terror of exquisite critical paranoid imagery refurbished with a grey zone industrial touch à la James Ballard, the songs have names like ‘Francis Bacon’, ‘Andropov 84’, ‘Control’ and ‘Jihad’; they seem to anticipate the postmodern hell that was to come. Heirs to Burroughs, Gyson, Kubrick and Ballard – like so many others – Konstruktivists show us that post-era pessimism that we forgot at the height of our neoliberal exploits in the nineties. The band reminds us today that the future and the promise were not as bright as we thought, and that forgetting our dark side as a society was a mistake that we would pay for later; this now seems like a premonition.
